Happy Founders' Day
Saturday, 19 November 2022

On the 19th November every year, Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Wakefield celebrates the granting of the Charter by Queen Elizabeth I to fourteen men to act as governors of 'free Grammar Schole of Queene Elizabeth att Wakefilde' which eventually became QEGS.  Leading citizens of the parish had been canvassed for promises of money, bequests and land sufficiently to make a realistic petition to the Monarch for a Charter, which was granted in 1591.

This year, then, we celebrate our 431st birthday.

Whilst celebrating our history, it is also a time to look to the future.  We remain committed to providing educational opportunities to future pupils and we are grateful to our "modern founders", all our Old Savilians, who already give back to the school, of your time and expertise, including through support of our careers programmes and through your financial support of our QEGS Bursary Fund and Clayton and building funds.

Our school values are Care, Contribute and Aspire and your support of school helps us to live up to these values
